Self-injury can affect anybody, at any time in their lives. Gender, age, sexual orientation, race, religion, background – they are all irrelevant. If, rather than considering who might turn to self-injury, we instead focus on who could possibly suffer from the emotional distress that can lead to self-injury, it’s much easier to imagine that self-injury really can affect anyone. Self-injury is...

Tumblr people - you so fine!
We’re really enjoying being part of the wider Tumblr community. We’ve been a big user of Twitter for some time, and we couldn’t be sure how we’d be received on Tumblr, or what we could best use the service for, but you’ve shown us that there’s real value here, that we can raise awareness about the difficult subject of self-injury. Thank you. Wedge LifeSIGNS -...

An ongoing battle
As some of you will have seen and read, we were maliciously attacked by hackers a couple of days ago. Over the last 48 hours Wedge has worked tirelessly to find the source of the attack and mend everything. Our web site and main blog were seriously damaged by the hackers, and therefore our hosting providers shut everything down while they helped us clear things up. This has meant a sporadic...

Self Injury can start at any age
“The first time I hurt myself, I was 26. I was a hairdresser at the time. I remember, I was in my bedroom at my parents’ house, very distressed and crying.” http://www.lifesigns.org.uk/what/at-any-age

And we're back :)
Good news; after working and monitoring all day, we feel that our LifeSIGNS web estate is now fine. We’re still quarantining our main blog, but our main website is up and running and our wristbands are once again available. Obviously we feel very deeply about the sporadic, random attack from malicious hackers that compromised our blog, but we’re relieved that everything now seems...

‘Coming out’ about self-injury to the people closest to us is a difficult decision to make. How the other person reacts is bound to have a serious affect on us, be it positive or negative, and so it’s important to think about that first conversation (if possible) before you have it. Or maybe you aren’t ready to talk yet, but need to get your feelings out somehow. One way of achieving...

Our blog post on SIAD material →
“Self-Injury Awareness Day (SIAD) is coming up on 1st March and we’re already receiving lots of enquiries. It’s fantastic to see the increase each year in the number of people taking an interest in SIAD and wishing to raise awareness about self-injury. A lot of people ask us to send them material through the post, but as we’re an unfunded voluntary organisation with a tiny budget, we...

Orange and Purple love
I’m not going to lie - one of the reasons I love our wristbands and keyrings is because my favourite colour is purple! I was very excited when we first added purple to them last year :) When they were just orange, I used to be able to say it was for a sports team I support - useful when I didn’t feel comfortable saying what it was really for. Added purple took away that excuse -...
